In New Orleans, you can hear live music any night of the week. There are so many shows and too little time, so we’ve narrowed it down to a few must see performances happening weekly* in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Grab some dinner and your dancing shoes…
Sunday
Hot 8 Brass Band at the Howlin’ Wolf at 10:30 p.m.
Located in the Warehouse District, Howlin’ Wolf has the ultimate Sunday Funday. Grab some dinner around the corner at Cochon, then dance off the Cajun dishes with the Grammy Award-winning Hot 8 Brass Band.
Monday
George Porter Jr. Trio at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Head Uptown to the Maple Leaf for a show from The Meters’ George Porter Jr. Enjoy the sounds of New Orleans funk that’ll make your Monday that much sweeter.
Tuesday
Live from the Balcony at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at 5 p.m.
Stop by the New Orleans Jazz Museum for a concert done from the balcony above. Every Tuesday, a different artist takes the impromptu stage as revelers listen from the courtyard. Honey Island Swamp Band, Jason Neville FunkySoul Band, and the Hot 8 Brass Band are just a few who have graced the balcony. Enjoy some beignets at nearby Café du Monde before the show.
Wednesday
Lynn Drury at MRB at 7 p.m.
Located right near the French Market, MRB is a laid-back spot great for catching live music every night of the week. On Wednesdays, watch as singer/songwriter Lynn Drury brings the sounds of Americana to NOLA. Grab some oysters and a frozen drink, and you’re set for a good time.
Thursday
Robin Barnes and Pat Casey at The Peacock Room at 8 p.m.
Known as Da Lovebirds, Robin Barnes and partner Pat Casey take to the mic every Thursday in the Peacock Room. Sit back and enjoy a meal with the performance, or head to Compère Lapin beforehand for delicious Creole eats.
Friday
Jeremy Davenport at the Davenport Lounge at 8 p.m.
At 8 p.m. on both Fridays and Saturdays, Jeremy Davenport plays at his namesake Davenport Lounge located in the Ritz Carlton hotel. This swanky spot is great for a romantic night with classic cocktails and small bites.
Saturday
Kermit Ruffins at Mother in Law Lounge at 6 p.m.
The Mother-In-Law Lounge embodies the soul of the Tremé neighborhood. You simply can’t get any more local than this – Kermit cooks a big batch of New Orleans cuisine (think dirty rice) and then performs. Dinner and a show!
