34 TV Shows Everyone Will Recommend Without Hesitation

We all have our favorite TV shows that we watch over and over and over. And when the opportunity comes up to recommend them to people, oh baby, you better watch out, because TV ignites passion! For me, those shows include GLOW, Steven Universe, 30 Rock, Survivor, and Stranger Things (I’m a Season 5 apologist, SUE ME!!!!!).

Recently, Redditor sunt0es asked, “What’s a TV series you’ll never get tired of recommending to someone?” Unsurprisingly, thousands of people chimed in (as I said, TV ignites passion), and the conversations about people’s fave shows were poppin’. Here’s what people had to recommend:

1. “My dad and I loved Freaks and Geeks when it aired. I bought him the series on DVD when it came out. I could watch that show anytime. Such a bummer it was only 18 episodes, but so worth the watch nonetheless.”

2. “Arrested Development is my recommendation for sure. I don’t think there has ever been a funnier show on television.”

3. “Somebody Somewhere. It’s like there’s nothing going on, but also everything going on at the same time.”

4. “I’m not a Star Wars fan, but Andor is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. A person who has never seen anything Star Wars-related could watch Andor, and the quality would still shine through. Watch it as just a political espionage thriller, understand the empire is the fucking devil, there is a resistance growing, and that people are risking their lives every day for the most minuscule information. Every single character is interesting, from the series leads to those who are in a single episode. What a show, man.”

5. “Shrinking. It’s such a calming show, everyone is likeable, and Harrison Ford is excellent. Just a nice show to watch and decompress from life.”

6. “Derry Girls is genuinely a perfect show and one of the funniest to ever air.”

7. “Just finished Orphan Black. My wife and I cannot understand why Tatiana Maslany isn’t a household name. Like, the ‘playing multiple characters’ trope has been done well before, but nowhere near as seamlessly and with such deft subtlety. The way Allison’s soccer mom lips are always slightly pursed. The easy balance of bloodthirstiness and comedy from Helena. Yeah, maybe some dead people come back a little too often à la X-Files, but the series was overwhelmingly successful from start to finish.”

8. “The humor in Malcom in the Middle was kinda ahead of its time, TBH.”

9. “Fleabag is absolutely brilliant. So much depth for a (darker) comedy. Its brilliance really hit me when I discovered who she was really talking to the whole time.”

10. “What We Do in the Shadows is one of the funniest shows of the last couple decades.”

11. “Friday Night Lights is so fucking good and was honestly ahead of its time. The representation of non-nuclear family structures, the portrayal of complicated racial issues that don’t get neatly wrapped up, kids dealing with a lot of heavy shit that they shouldn’t have to — it’s very real and raw. I tell everyone I recommend it to that it’s not a show about football, football is just a vehicle to tell the story they want to tell. For a coach, Eric Taylor is one of the best portrayals of non-toxic masculinity I’ve ever seen.”

12. “I made my partner watch The Good Place because I’d watched it before and knew he would love it. Lots of laughs, and a few pull-at-your-heartstrings moments. After the final couple of episodes, he was jokingly mad that I made him watch it, because he was so sad it was over.”

14. “Fall of the House of Usher is a great series that’s only one season of eight episodes and resolves without any cliffhangers.”

15. “The first few seasons of Futurama are still top-tier TV. They are a masterclass in script writing.”

16. “I’m not even a fan of soccer or most sports, but Ted Lasso may be the most wholesome, down-to-earth show I’ve ever seen. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, soccer is only about 5% of the show. The other 95% is behind the scenes, character development, comedy, and straight-up genuine wholesomeness. 💖”

17. “Mrs. Davis on Peacock. I really love the message behind the show. It changed my life, and if I feel like I’m struggling, then I just remember the very last scene of the last episode (I won’t spoil it). It just reminds me to be a better person. I wish everyone would watch this show.”

19. “Just finished the first season of The Pitt and I loved it. It’s an emotional roller coaster, and as a parent, I found myself getting so teary-eyed at any scene involving a child. Extremely well made, and I look forward to starting Season 2.”

20. “The impressive thing about Parks and Rec is that the humor isn’t mean. All the characters are loved and appreciated (yes, even Jerry). To make the funny happen, they just dialed all the personality quirks up to the extreme and let them bounce off each other.”

21. “Bojack Horseman is a true masterpiece! To take something as inane as a horse from an outdated sitcom, animate it, and then have it turn out so heady and deeply moving is nothing short of brilliant — so many layers.”

22. “I just finished watching Firefly again after years, and it’s so endearing! I was having dreams about it every night, which is always a sign that something is deeply effective. It seemed like it was really hitting its stride by the final episode, even the production values seemed higher. Such a loss, but so worth watching.”

24. “Six Feet Under still holds up pretty well for a 20+ year old show.”

—u/Signal-Philosophy271

“The final episode is such perfection. I love returning to the show just to get to the end, as silly as that sounds.”

—u/Sixtyninealldaychef

“It’s so good! I watched it in my 20s before my mom died, and then again in my mid-30s, and it was like a different show. I related to Claire my first watch before kids, and then Ruth after. There’s something so cathartic about addressing death so head-on, the way it does. It might be time for a rewatch.”

25. “I absolutely adore Broad City. I’ve rewatched it SO MANY TIMES, and it still makes me laugh as much as the first. It’s such a great comfort show, too.”

—u/TheCeruleanFire

“Walton Goggins steals every scene he’s in with that character.”
