Adirondack communities celebrate Memorial Day and other events

Events in the Adirondacks this week include a series of Memorial Day celebrations, parades and activities, as well as live music and arts and crafts.

America’s 250th banner making at Old Forge Library

11 a.m.-1 p.m. on May 22 and 23 at the Old Forge Library

With this collaborative Community Banner Project, participants will create decorative fabric squares that will be joined together into a commemorative masterpiece honoring key American holidays.

Participants who cannot attend the live sessions are encouraged to stop by the library to pick up a square and complete their design at home.

The completed banner will be officially unveiled during the library’s Veterans Day Brunch on Nov. 9, standing as a tribute to the community’s shared history and spirit.

Great Adirondack Garage Sale

May 22-24 at participating locations across the North Country

More than 200 miles of garage sales will take place from Cranberry Lake to Speculator and everywhere in between. Offerings include vintage antiques, rustic furniture, jewelry, kitchen items, toys, clothing and more.

Towns located along NYS Routes 28, 30 and 3, include Old Forge, Inlet, Raquette Lake, Indian Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, Long Lake, Tupper Lake, Cranberry Lake, Piercefield, Newcomb and Speculator.

Memorial Day weekend in Ticonderoga

May 22-25 at various locations in Crown Point, Hague and Ticonderoga

Enjoy Memorial Day weekend events at the Mount Defiance Lodge, Silver Bay YMCA, Fort Ticonderoga, Town of Hague, Ticonderoga Elks Lodge and the Town of Crown Point.

Activities include outdoor recreation, fireworks at the Silvery Bay YMCA, a commemoration ceremony at Fort Ticonderoga, a parade in Hague and games, rides and entertainment in Crown Point.

Lake George Memorial Day parade

11:30 a.m. on May 23 on Westbrook Road in Lake George

Come out for Lake George’s Memorial Day Parade along Westbrook Road to Lake George Old Courthouse. The parade will start in the morning on Saturday, May 23.

Road closures include:

  • Westbrook Road
  • Betty Little Boulevard
  • Beach Road
  • Canada Street
  • Beginning of the following streets where they touch Canada Street: McGillis Avenue, Kurosaka Lane, Christie Lane, Montcalm Street, Amherst Street

Glove Cities Arts Alliance present jazz concert in trail station park

7 p.m. on May 23 at Trail Station Park’s Splash Pad Pavilion in Gloversville

The Glove Cities Arts Alliance will present a jazz concert with world-renowned jazz musicians Michael Bisio, bassist, and Kirk Knuffke, cornetist. Award-winning regional brewing company, Stump City Brewing, will also be present with a pop-up bar.

Tickets cost $15 tickets and are available at ticketstripe.com/knbjazz. Current GCAA members receive $10 tickets. Tickets can also be purchased at the door with cash, debit, credit or mobile pay apps.

Hill and Hollow Music Young Concert Artists

4 p.m. on May 24 at the Saranac Methodist Church in Saranac

Hill and Hollow Music presents guitar duo Miles Johnston and Michael Vascones with flautist Anthony Trinfo for a program ranging from Back and Piazzolla to contemporary arrangements custom to the trio. The trio has been featured throughout the country including Carnegie since winning their spots on the 2025/26 Young Concert Artists roster.

For 65 years, Young Concert Artists has stood at the forefront of discovering and launching the careers of the future leaders of classical music. Founded by Susan Wadsworth in 1961, YCA has invested in its artists by providing them with the tools, opportunities and infrastructure to take their careers to the highest level.

General admission is $20. Children and students pay $10.

Bolton Landing Memorial Day celebration

7-9 p.m. on May 24 at Rogers Memorial Park in Bolton Landing

Hosted by the Bolton Landing Chamber and the Sagamore Resort, enjoy live music at Rogers Memorial Park with the No Clue Band, and fireworks at 9 p.m.

Long Lake and Hamilton County Memorial Day celebration and parade

Ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. on May 25 in Long Lake

The American Legion Post 650 will host both the Long Lake Memorial Day Parade and the Hamilton County Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25 in Long Lake.

Memorial Day ceremonies will begin with a traditional dedication at the Long Lake Bridge. The local Long Lake Memorial Day Parade will step off at 11:30 a.m. from the Long Lake Town Hall and proceed to the Long Lake Cemetery for services, commemorations and the decoration of veterans’ graves.

The Hamilton County Memorial Day Parade will begin at 2 p.m., starting at the Mt. Sabattis Recreation Area and continuing to the front lawn of Long Lake Central School. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Long Lake Town Hall. Motorists should expect temporary traffic delays as the parades move through the community.
