Doylestown launching centennial scavenger hunt, historical presentation for Fanny Chapman Pool’s 100th anniversary – Central Bucks Now

Community-wide celebration includes business scavenger hunt and student-led discussion on pool integration history

Fanny Chapman Memorial Pool is celebrating its 100th anniversary this summer with a borough-wide scavenger hunt and a community presentation examining the pool’s history of racial integration.

Beginning Saturday, May 23, residents can participate in the Fanny Chapman Pool Centennial Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win a free 2027 pool membership.

Participants can pick up scavenger hunt sheets at the pool or at Doylestown Borough Hall before visiting participating borough businesses in search of hidden dolphin displays. Players will collect stamps at each location and return completed sheets to the pool by Aug. 30. Officials said a winner will be selected during Labor Day weekend festivities.

A racial integration history lesson scheduled

The scavenger hunt is part of a broader celebration marking a century of community recreation at the historic Doylestown pool facility.

As part of the centennial programming, the borough will also host a public presentation examining the history of racial integration at Fanny Chapman Pool through student-led historical research conducted for the Human Relations Commission’s Historical Research Project.

The presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 3 at Doylestown Borough Hall, 10 Doyle St.

The event will feature research and presentations from Central Bucks High School West students Abigail O’Mara, Aanika Oka, Evianne Casey, Kaitlyn Thomas and Maya Byrne.

Organizers said the presentation will explore the pool’s role in the borough’s civil rights and integration history while highlighting local stories uncovered through the students’ research efforts.

The event is open to the public.
