This story contains spoilers for the Marshals season 1 finale and beyond.
Say what you will about Marshals, but the Yellowstone spin-off was anything but dull in the finale. After Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) and his team of U.S. Marshals stopped an assassination attempt on Broken Rock Reservation chairman Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), the CBS series dropped the curtain and unveiled the real villain behind the assault. Then a second attack left every character’s fate up for grabs, including Kayce and his son, Tate (Brecken Merrill).
At the end of the Marshals finale, Tate goes off with Tom on a fishing trip while Weaver leaves his daughter, Dolly (Ellyn Jameson) to entertain Kayce alone. Meanwhile, Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) and Belle (Arielle Kebbel) face gunfire while investigating another suspect. Weaver’s foreman informs him that the deed is done, and he boards a jet with Tate before the series leaves us on the edge of our seats until season 2.
But why wait? Season 2 may not air until October (at the earliest), and the stars of Marshals are already doing interviews in which they spoil who survives and who doesn’t. Major spoilers ahead, of course. But shockingly—or perhaps not—it sounds like everyone returns.
As Logan Marshall-Green told The Hollywood Reporter following the finale, he’s already filming scenes for Cal in season 2. “I can confirm he is alive, but not necessarily unscathed,” he said. Want more? Marshall-Green also admitted that “I can confirm that for everybody in the damn show.”
“I’m hours away of shooting [season 2, episode 1],” he continued. “I can tell you that we’re all going through things—without giving anything away.”
Without giving anything away?!
Same goes for Arielle Kebbel. She told the outlet that her character Belle doesn’t just return but that her head is “deep into season 2 already.”
“We pick up immediately in season 2 where we left off,” she confirmed. “Especially with the Weaver ranch and the looming circumstances there. I think people may be surprised to see just how bad it gets.”
I hope so! Because other than Kayce’s fate (probably fine!) or his son’s (also probably okay!), there’s little left to be surprised by when the series returns.
