Victoria Beckham shared her mindset when it comes to parenting her four kids with husband David Beckham.
“There’s a big difference between supporting children with what they want to do and forcing them,” Victoria, 52, told The Times on Wednesday, May 27. “All we’ve ever done with any of the children is support them, help them and encourage them.”
For example, her sons, Brooklyn, 27, Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 21, all used to follow in their dad’s footsteps by playing soccer, but “one by one they decided it wasn’t for them.”
“And that’s OK, whatever makes them happy,” the former Spice Girl added. “I just want them to feel fulfilled.”
She added that she’s “proud” that all of her children, including daughter Harper, 14, “found what they love,” as well as “their passion and their sense of purpose.”
Victoria’s message comes after Brooklyn slammed her and David, 51, in a January social media statement.
“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed,” he wrote at the time. “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
Brooklyn went on to claim that Victoria and David “controlled narratives in the press” for his “entire life,” danced “very inappropriately on” him at his wedding to Nicola Peltz Beckham and “refused” to see him and Nicola at the soccer legend’s birthday party.
Shortly after Brooklyn’s statement made waves online, David appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box and said that “children make mistakes.”
“That’s how they learn. So, that’s what I try to teach my kids, but you have to sometimes let them make those mistakes as well,” he said.
Victoria also opened up to The Wall Street Journal in April, saying, “I think that we’ve always — we love our children so much. We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be, and you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. That’s all I really want to say about it.”
