Stephanie Pratt is weighing in again on brother Spencer Pratt’s mayoral run in Los Angeles, but this time with a different opinion.
“I admit I was the first person to tell people that they were idiots if they voted for my brother,” Stephanie, 40, told Vanity Fair in an email interview on Wednesday, May 27. “Wow, was I wrong. He has spent every day since the fires, finding the facts, the mistakes, the negligence and uncovering the truth that they never wanted us to know.”
After Spencer, 42, announced earlier this year that he is running for mayor of Los Angeles, Stephanie publicly shared via X in February that a “vote for him is a vote for stupidity.” Months later, Spencer exclusively shared how his family feels about his political bid in Us Weekly’s latest cover story.
“My mom and dad are still struggling; they’ve lost everything, so they’re just keeping it together,” he said in the Wednesday article. “My sister [Stephanie] goes back and forth, and I obviously pray for her. My older sister [Kristin] is very supportive. Family will always be family [with] ups and downs. I’m doing this for my own soul and spirit.”
Spencer’s wife, Heidi Montag, has been “obviously very supportive” throughout the process. (The pair share sons Gunnar, 8, and Ryker, 3.)
“Heidi is so locked in with Jesus, she just keeps saying, ‘God has a great purpose for you, honey,’” he told Us, before addressing whether he feels like it is part of his destiny. “I truly never imagined I would actually probably [become] the mayor. I just wanted somebody to [tell] the truth, and I wanted to have that platform as a candidate against [Karen Bass] to get the truth. You can just get away with lying if you don’t have somebody saying that’s not true.”
Spencer is set to face off against incumbent mayor Bass and fellow candidate Nithya Raman in a June 2 primary. The two winners will advance to a November 3 election.
Spencer, for his part, has received support from several celebrities including Paris Hilton, Jenny McCarthy and more. David Foster and Katharine McPhee went on to host a fundraiser at their home earlier this month.
“We are part of the exhausted majority that is begging for a clean and safe city for all Angelenos,” Foster, 76, and McPhee, 42, told Us in a statement. “We believe Spencer is the right man for the right job at the right time.”
