MOUNT PLEASANT, Tx – The Mount Pleasant PRCA Rodeo is back for another exciting weekend, bringing rodeo action, family entertainment, shopping, and motocross thrills to East Texas.
KTBS’ Bethany Nolan spoke with Mount Pleasant PRCA Rodeo President Bo Rester ahead of the weekend festivities, which locals call “Spur Week” — one of the busiest and most anticipated times of the year in the community.
According to Rester, this year’s rodeo includes more than 600 contestants competing throughout the week, with slack events already underway and nightly rodeo performances scheduled Thursday through Saturday.
Fans can expect all the traditional rodeo favorites, including bareback riding, bronc riding, bull riding, and roping competitions.
“We’re going to start with the traditional events of rodeo,” Rester said during the interview.
But beyond the standard rodeo lineup, organizers say several fan-favorite attractions are returning this year — including mutton bustin’ for kids and the wildly popular “donkey deal.”
“We release six donkeys all at one time, and the teams have to get on them and ride them,” Rester explained. “Everybody wants to see the donkey deal.”
The entertainment continues after the rodeo performances with Cowboy Kenny, a five-time world champion X Games motocross rider, performing freestyle motorcycle stunts inside the arena.
“He’ll be right here flipping that motorcycle in the arena,” Rester said.
Families attending the rodeo can also enjoy a large vendor area featuring shopping, food, entertainment, jewelry, and western wear.
“There’s something for everybody,” Rester said. “It’s great family fun.”
Tickets are available online through MP Rodeo, at the gate, or at select local businesses including Diamonds & Designs Outfitters and Bo Rester Steak Barn.
Organizers say the rodeo will take place rain or shine, with plenty of seating available for guests throughout the weekend.
The Mount Pleasant PRCA Rodeo continues through Saturday in Mount Pleasant.
