Elizabeth Taylor collected diamonds, jewels, and apparently, very good Baguettes. Fendi Baguettes, that is.
In “Handbags Online: The New York Edit,” a new auction hosted by Christie’s from May 28 to June 11, two of the screen legend’s rare Fendi Baguettes are up for bid, with options suited to both the minimalist and maximalist shopper. The first caters to the former: a chocolate brown Selleria Baguette with sterling silver hardware and exposed contrast stitching. The second, an embellished floral design in red, black, and white, showcases Taylor’s more theatrical style.
Dated to the early 2000s, both designs are expected to fetch between $3,000 and $5,000 and still carry tags from Christie’s landmark “The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor” auction. The auction house previously sold pieces from Taylor’s collection in 2011 as part of the record-breaking sale, which included jewelry, haute couture, fashion, and fine art—everything from original Warhols to Academy Awards and diamonds gifted by Richard Burton.
Long known for her love of glamour and exceptional jewelry collection, Taylor’s influence continues to resonate across fashion and pop culture. At Demna’s final Balenciaga show in July, Kim Kardashian wore Taylor’s very own diamond earrings (she also snapped up a few of her Lorraine Schwartz bangles back at the 2011 auction) and executive-produced a 2025 docuseries on the late star. And then there’s Taylor Swift, who dedicated an entire track to the legend on her most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Taylor’s Baguettes are in good company. Also featured in the sale are rare designer handbags from notable private collections, ranging from limited-edition Dior Lady bags to houndstooth Chanel Flap bags. Leading the auction is a white Himalaya Birkin 30, expected to fetch between $90,000 and $120,000. Baguettes are well represented, too, with standout styles including a metallic patchwork sequin design and a black satin and leather embellished purse, sourced in partnership with the New York-based vintage destination Into Archive.
Suddenly, we’re hungry for Baguettes!
