Evanston Public Library invites the community to an evening of music, movement and cultural connection at Our Roots, Our Stories: Music, Dance and Legacy from 5 to 7 p.m. on June 6 at Levy Senior Center.

This special concert-style experience will explore the rich cultural connections between Bomba, a traditional music and dance style from Puerto Rico, and West African drumming traditions through live performances and engaging cultural presentations.

The event features performances by La Escuelita Bombera de Corazón and Victoria Djembe Academy, bringing together rhythm, storytelling, dance and heritage in a celebration of shared cultural legacy.

Participants will experience:

  • Live music and dance performances
  • Cultural storytelling and presentations
  • Exploration of the connections between Bomba and West African drumming traditions
  • An evening centered on rhythm, history, and community

Our Roots, Our Stories celebrates the ways music and movement preserve culture, strengthen community bonds and honor traditions passed down through generations.
