Get ready for a breathtaking finish as the world of horse racing turns its attention to the Capital-Saratoga region, where the Saratoga Race Course will play host to the Belmont Stakes for the third time in the prestigious event’s 158-year history. In June, communities across New York State are celebrating Juneteenth, which commemorates the abolition of slavery in the United States. The Juneteenth Festival of Buffalo (June 13-14) is one of the largest celebrations of its kind in the world. In the Chautauqua-Allegheny region, enjoy the Jamestown Juneteenth Festival at Jackson Taylor Park (June 19-21). Saratoga Springs hosts a Juneteenth Celebration on June 19 with music, poetry, interpretative dance, historic performances, and more. On Long Island, “A Long Road to Freedom” A Juneteenth Celebration and Tour on June 19 will honor and acknowledge the true meaning of Juneteenth and include visits to local historic African American sites. The festival brings together a dynamic mix of genre-defying artists including blues guitar virtuoso Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Afro-Cuban funk phenomenon Cimafunk, and hip, soul-inflected rhythm and blues band The Dip. Also featured are jazz powerhouse vocalists Dianne Reeves and Cécile McLorin Salvant, contemporary and cutting-edge jazz leaders Terri Lyne Carrington and Lakecia Benjamin, and Cuban piano master Gonzalo Rubalcaba with his First Meeting Quartet featuring Chris Potter, Larry Grenadier and Eric Harland. With two stages, craft beer, delicious eats, family fun, and a fine arts fair, it’s the perfect way to kick off summer in style.

Located on beautiful Chautauqua Lake near Jamestown, the Chautauqua Institution is a truly unique cultural center, renowned for its nine-week summer celebration of the arts, education, and recreation. Enlighten yourself with a morning lecture series, featuring important societal topics ranging from women who change the world to global power and our evolving international order. Scheduled entertainment includes Wynonna Judd and Melissa Etheridge, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Harry Connick Jr., Samara Joy, and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. The Institution also features sporting activities and on-grounds accommodations.
