Kailyn Lowry is opening up about navigating a difficult breakup.
While speaking with PEOPLE about her upcoming “Fatherless Behavior” tour with other members of her KILLR Podcast network, Lowry opened up about a recent “emotional” episode of her podcast Barely Famous.
In the three-part Patreon special, Lowry sat down with ex Elijah Scott to talk about the end of their relationship last year and how they’ve moved forward as co-parents to their three children — twins Verse and Valley, 2, and son Rio, 3.
“It was emotional for me because I had dealt with a lot of it behind the scenes, and obviously when the initial news broke, and I had found out publicly with everybody else — or I should say after everybody else,” she tells PEOPLE.

“I went through all kinds of emotions, and then I took time. We filmed that when it was a full year after I had found out. And so I think that at that point I was ready to do it, but because it was the first time speaking about it all publicly with him, it was very emotional for me. A lot of things came up.”
Lowry is proud that through it all, she and Scott have maintained friendliness when it comes to co-parenting their three kids. “I feel good about Elijah and I having that sort of dynamic and so that we didn’t have to go to court, and we just did 50/50 custody right off the bat. So that’s the upside of it.”
While Lowry received some criticism for her handling of the breakup, which came after news went public that Scott had cheated on Lowry during a vacation away from the family, she explained that she came back around to address it in her time because the situation unfolded as publicly as it did.
“I think when you have something so publicly happen like that, [there’s] power in the pause. Take a minute and then address it publicly. And for me, I feel like he owed everybody a response too, because he did it so publicly, and so I do feel like it was necessary for us to do that,” she explains.
“But it’s nice to be able to sit down and have this conversation. It wasn’t a screaming match. We literally sat across from each other and had a productive conversation, which was nice.”
Those checking out Lowry’s tour dates won’t hear about Scott, or any of the other fathers of Lowry’s children — a conscious effort on her part to focus her content elsewhere. In addition to her three children with Scott, Lowry also shares Lux and Creed, now 8 and 5, with ex Chris Lopez; son Lincoln, 12, with ex-husband Javi Marroquin; and oldest son Elliott, 16, with ex Jo Rivera.
“We’re basically structuring this entire set to not mention any of the dads whatsoever, even in a joking way. We don’t really want to open that can of worms this go around,” she notes.
Tickets for Lowry’s “Fatherless Behavior” tour are officially on sale, with dates from mid-June through late August.
