Lamorne Morris and Nicolas Cage bonded on set of Spider-Noir thanks to their shared love of watches
Morris told PEOPLE at the series’ May 13 premiere that Cage loves a nice timepiece, which ended up being something they’d discuss together

The Spider-Noir costars, who appear together in the latest superhero series from Prime Video, connected on the set of their new project partly thanks to their shared love of watches, Morris tells PEOPLE.
“I’m not gonna lie to you, like it still bugs me out that I’m friends with Nicolas Cage,” Morris shared during the series’ May 13 premiere at New York City’s Regal Times Square. “I text him from time to time. He loves timepieces. He loves watches. And so I do too.”

Morris, 42, only owns a few watches himself (one of which was a “gift”), but Cage has a collection he wanted to know “all about.”
“Like he’s the guy I go to whenever I see something cool, I’ll send him a picture and go, ‘Have you seen this?’ And obviously he has. But yeah, we bonded a little bit over that,” Morris adds. “A love of cars…. I mean, he knows a little bit about everything. So no matter what you enjoy, he knows about it.”
In Spider-Noir, Cage stars as Ben Reilly (or “The Spider”), a down-on-his-luck private investigator who must come to terms with his past. Along the way, he rubs shoulders with Morris’ Robbie Robertson, a journalist in 1930s New York City who is also looking to crack the case on the thing that turned his friend Reilly into a web-slinger.
They star alongside Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson, who plays the quick-witted crime boss Silvermane. The series is available to stream in both “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color.”
Cage’s latest performance, naturally, required some “flying around,” the actor told PEOPLE during its premiere. “It brings my adrenaline up. You never know if it’s gonna snap, but I had a great team,” he added.
The crew that worked on the show “knew what they were doing,” though, so snapped wires were unlikely. “Everybody was on point so I was safe,” Cage said. “But for me, that’s just the fun part of doing this. Primarily, I was focused on trying to craft this performance style that would fit in the black-and-white format.”
All eight episodes of Spider-Noir, which debuted domestically on MGM+’s linear broadcast channel, are now available to stream on Prime Video.
