It’s been a while since former Prince Andrew has been seen in public, but he made a rare public outing in early June 2026—and he didn’t look so good.
In a photo published by Us Weekly on Thursday, June 4, Andrew was seen getting into a car. As he turned toward the camera, a large purple bruise was visible on the right side of his face, covering much of his cheek and undereye.
According to The Times, the ex-prince’s bruised face is believed to be the result of a “non-serious medical condition.”
A source with direct knowledge later told The Telegraph that there’s no cause for concern and “no drama”—meaning no accident or attack—was responsible for Andrew’s bruise.
Several doctors also spoke with the Daily Mail and explained that people taking blood thinners are especially prone to bruises like Andrew’s, and that even “minor knocks can turn into something that looks nasty.”
They also suggested that it could be the result of facial surgery, or, in some cases, from being “punched in the face.”
This rare appearance follows reports that Prince William was allegedly concerned about the former Duke of York’s health. In January 2026, The Times noted that William has more sympathy for Andrew than some might think.
“In the whole sorry saga, William was often painted as the tough guy urging his father to put his foot down. This image of ruthless William was, I’m told, wide of the mark,” the outlet reported.
They continued, “If anything, William was deeply concerned for his uncle’s mental health and how Andrew would cope after everything was taken away. Nevertheless, William realised that while Andrew had always denied any wrongdoing, he supported his father’s decision to strip Andrew of his royal titles. Kate, in turn, supported her husband in the matter.”
Andrew has been flying under the radar ever since King Charles stripped him of his royal titles in October 2025 due to his years-long friendship with the late convicted sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In February 2026, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office after allegations surfaced that he shared top-secret information with Epstein. By May 2026, he was also being investigated for sexual misconduct. Andrew has continuously denied these claims.
