The series will adapt Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After, but Harris has her eyes on another of Fortune’s books for a potential season 2.

If Every Year After showrunner Amy B. Harris has her way, viewers are going to spend a lot of time in Barry’s Bay.
In the upcoming series, which is an adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel Every Summer After, Harris takes viewers inside the world of Barry’s Bay, the beloved lake that is home to Percy (Sadie Soverall) and Sam’s (Matt Cornett) love story. But Harris has plans that take the story beyond that.
“I see five seasons,” Harris tells Entertainment Weekly. “Obviously, there’s another book that’s connected to Barry’s Bay that I think will be a very exciting blueprint for us for a potential season 2.”

Harris is referencing Fortune’s One Golden Summer, which follows Sam’s brother, Charlie (Michael Bradway), as he finds love (also on the lake). But Harris is even looking beyond the source material.

“We have these six main characters, and I think we’ll be adding characters as the seasons go on. I really see this as a series, and it’s why we built it the way we did so that we can come back and explore a lot more romance,” she says. “We have lots more to say both about Percy and Sam’s love story, but also about these other characters who hopefully people will come to love as much as they do Percy and Sam.”
As for Percy and Sam, she adds, “Even if you end up in a happy relationship, relationships are a lot of work, and they don’t come easily. And I think that’s also interesting to explore. I think Barry’s Bay has a lot more story to tell.”
Although the series has not yet been picked up for a second season, Harris has hope for the future.
Every Year After premieres June 10 on Prime Video.
