Actor-filmmaker R Madhavan, veteran Malayalam superstar Mammootty, actor Satish Shah and Telugu cinema veteran Rajendra Prasad are among the film personalities set to receive Padma Awards from President Droupadi Murmu at the second Civil Investiture Ceremony on June 23. The event will honour 65 eminent personalities who were not part of the first phase of this year’s Padma Awards presentations.
The second ceremony will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan after the first investiture ceremony last month, during which 66 awardees received their honours. As the awards are presented within a limited ceremonial schedule, the remaining recipients will be honoured in the second phase.
Among the notable names from the film industry, Mammootty will receive the Padma Bhushan. The actor has appeared in more than 400 films across multiple languages during a career spanning over five decades. He is also known for his contributions to social and charitable causes.
R Madhavan will be conferred with the Padma Shri. Popularly known as Maddy, the actor has built a successful career across television and cinema, with more than 1,200 television episodes and 75 films to his credit in Tamil, Hindi and other languages. He has also been involved in agricultural ventures, including organic hydroponic farming in Mumbai and a coconut farm in Tamil Nadu.
Satish Shah, who will also receive the Padma Shri, is known for his work across theatre, television and films. He has enjoyed a career spanning more than four decades and is celebrated for his comic timing and memorable performances.
Meanwhile, Rajendra Prasad, who has been selected for the Padma Shri, is a stalwart of Telugu cinema. He has acted in more than 286 films across six languages over a four-decade career and is also recognised for his charitable work.
This year, the President approved 131 Padma Awards, including five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri honours.
Announced annually on Republic Day, the awards recognise distinguished contributions across fields such as art, literature, education, medicine, science, sports, public affairs, trade and industry, social work, and civil service.
The June 23 ceremony will conclude this year’s Padma Awards presentations, honouring achievers from diverse fields across the country.
