Anthony Guidera, best known for appearing in The Godfather Part III and Species, died at the age of 65 on Saturday following complications from a sudden cardiac arrest.
Guidera’s wife Valarie confirmed the news to TMZ on Tuesday, telling the outlet that his heart stopped suddenly while the couple was at home on May 11. Valarie said her husband was rushed to the hospital, where he was put on life support for three weeks.
The medical team reportedly decided to take him off life support, per his prior directive, and he died peacefully on Saturday. Valarie told TMZ the cause of his cardiac arrest is still unknown.
Guidera launched his film career in 1990 by landing the role of a bodyguard (also named Anthony) in the third installment of the Godfather trilogy.
He made cameo appearances in shows such as Baywatch and Valley of the Dolls before booking a role in the horror sci-film Species in 1995. For his portrayal of Robbie, he earned an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss with his costar Natasha Henstridge. The gruesome smooch beat out the likes of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in Desperado, and Winona Ryder and Dermot Mulroney in How to Make an American Quilt.
