I’m a huge movie buff, and I usually go to the movie theater more than once a month. Movies are magical and a wonderful way to escape. Especially if you have children. We all need a break from our children sometimes.
So I got to thinking about celebrities with ties to Fort Collins, my hometown, and what I found shocked me.
Jon Heder
Who knew Fort Collins was such a hotbed for talent? Not me. But some of my favorite movies have actors and actresses from Fort Collins. Take Jon Heder, for example. The breakout star of the movie Napoleon Dynamite was born and raised right here in Fort Collins. You can also see the Northern Colorado native in movies, The Benchwarmers, alongside David Spade, and Blades of Glory with Will Ferrell.
Jake Lloyd
Jake Lloyd was a child actor who played a young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode 1. Jake was born in Fort Collins and still has family in town.
I actually ran into Jake in the wild. I was waiting tables at a local restaurant, and he came in with his family. He was probably around 12, and it went a little something like this.
Me- “Wow, you look like the kid from Star Wars.”
Jake Lloyd- “I get that a lot.”
That’s it.
Hattie McDaniel
This one was a shock to me because, being a fan of the movie Gone With The Wind, how did I not know this? Hattie McDaniel lived in Fort Collins and was later the first black actress to win an Academy Award.
And while Hattie was born in Kansas, she was primarily raised in Fort Collins.
Northern Colorado has turned out some pretty talented people.
