“Do That Again” by Malcolm Todd — The new album from this heartfelt singer-songwriter is particularly sexy, adding onto his typical yearnful style. Here, the fame Todd has received is both swallowed and spit out, all for the sake of love and care. On a song like “Breathe,” the aforementioned sexiness is portrayed as enticing and intimate, whereas on “Gun To My Head,” Todd is quite resentful of what’s happening to him as he gets more and more known as an artist. He’s lustfully excited, yet he sits still in his melancholy.

“Cry Baby” by Vince Staples — Vince Staples is a rapper, right? Well here he’s making his monotone raps fall over pop punk-type beats with very specifically political lyrics, blending all these elements alongside his blog rap tendencies on “Blackberry Marmalade.” Then comes the brutally honest “White Flag,” an intense condemnation of the white supremacy still in the red blood of the USA. There’s always an emotional kick to the emotionless delivery of the truth when it comes to Staples’ music, and that is ever present here, arguably more than ever.

“SOMA” by Skrillex — Blending experimental EDM with straight-up the aggro dubstep Skrillex is obviously known for, this project is highly collaborative and intrigues the listener in an intoxicating way. “Tranki” is like this, blending accents and intense sonic waveforms to make a stuttering sort of musical gravel pit. Not that the tone is gravely, the sound has quite the bounce to it in fact, but more that the album feels like walking barefoot through piles and piles of rough cut gravel, soothing in its harshness.
