Mariaelena Mariotti is an Italian sculptor known for creating realistic dinosaur sculptures by hand. Her interest in dinosaurs began in childhood after watching Jurassic Park and receiving a dinosaur encyclopedia, which led to years of drawing and studying prehistoric animals before she pursued formal art training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, Italy.
Using clay sculpting, mold making, resin casting, and hand painting, she creates detailed dinosaur models ranging from hatchlings to large adults. Her work combines artistic craftsmanship with inspiration from paleontology, resulting in creatures that appear lifelike while remaining distinctly artistic creations.
Mariotti became widely recognized for photographing her dinosaur sculptures in everyday situations. Instead of depicting them as scary, she places them in familiar settings such as homes, gardens, beaches, and family activities.
