King Charles III’s former head of security has been recognised
in the King’s Birthday Honours List after decades spent protecting
the Royal Family.
Jagjivan Singh Khangura, known to colleagues and friends as
“Jag”, has been appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order
(MVO) for services to royalty and specialist protection.
The honour, which is bestowed personally by the King, recognises
distinguished personal service to the Sovereign and the Royal
Family.
Mr Khangura served as the King’s personal head of security for
many years and was a familiar figure at some of the most
significant royal events of recent times, including the Coronation
and overseas state visits.
Until recently, little was publicly known about the Metropolitan
Police inspector, whose role required him to remain largely out of
the spotlight while overseeing the monarch’s protection.
His identity emerged earlier this year following his retirement
from royal duties. Friends and colleagues gathered at Chelsea
Barracks to celebrate the conclusion of his distinguished career,
with businessman James Eden describing him as “simply one of the
finest people you will ever meet”.
Mr Eden also praised the officer’s dedication and
professionalism, describing him as “an absolute hero”.
The King’s Birthday Honours List formally recognises Mr Khangura
as an Inspector with the Metropolitan Police Service and awards him
the MVO for services to royalty and specialist protection.
The recognition places him among a number of royal household
staff and trusted aides honoured by the King this year through the
Royal Victorian Order.
Others recognised include Sir Michael Dixon, Head of the Royal
Medical Household and the King’s personal physician, who is
promoted to Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO),
and David White, Garter Principal King of Arms, who also receives a
KCVO.
Leonora, Countess of Lichfield, Lady-in-Waiting to the Princess
Royal, is promoted to Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order
(DCVO), while Annabelle Galletley, Assistant Private Secretary and
Lady-in-Waiting to the Duchess of Edinburgh, is appointed a
Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO).
