Zach Braff says season 2 of the Scrubs reboot will feature more fan-favorite guest stars and be “even better”
The original cast, including Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, returned for the reboot, which premiered in February 2025

Scrubs fans will have some special surprises in store next season, as Zach Braff teased a bit of what to expect.
Braff, 51, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at the Clean Hands world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival at the Village East by Angelika in New York City on Sunday, June 7.
“Scrubs season 2 is gonna be even better than the first,” he said when asked if there’s anything he could share about the next reboot season. “I feel like we all learned so much in doing season 1. So we learned what the audience really liked.”
“We learned the tone and a lot of more guest stars will be back for the fans. I’ll tease that. Or we’re booking a lot of their fan favorites as we speak,” Braff continued.

Scrubs first aired from 2001 to 2010 before Braff, along with original cast members Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley and more, reprised their roles as the staff at the Sacred Heart Hospital for the show’s reboot.
During the show’s original run, Braff received three Golden Globe nominations and an Emmy nod for his role as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian.
In November 2025, Braff and Faison, 51, spoke to PEOPLE about what they hoped for by deciding to reboot the series.
“There’s a very young writers staff along with some of the brilliant original writers on Scrubs, and I think this young, very diverse group of writers will help us crack that case,” Braff said, and Faison added that “a lot of the story still holds up.”

“You’re still following your favorite doctors, your heroes to some people,” Faison continued. “Regardless of what’s happened from season 1 through 9, the core story is still there and people really want to see that.”
The first nine-episode season of the Scrubs reboot premiered on Feb. 25, with the finale airing on April 15.
“JD and Turk [Faison] scrub in together for the first time in a long time: Medicine has changed; interns have changed; but their bromance has stood the test of time,” reads the official synopsis. “Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.”
When Braff spoke to PEOPLE again in February, he said he found it “really shocking” learning how old some of his new costars were, considering they weren’t alive when he first started working on the show.
“I knew that we made the show in 2000, but I’m acting with these 25-year-olds who are brilliant and smart and clever, and then they say they were born in 2000, and it kind of blows your mind,” Braff said.
“It’s weird when you’re like, ‘What? But you’re my work friend. You weren’t alive when we made the show?’ ” he continued. “It’s weird when you do the math, it doesn’t feel right.”
Braff stars alongside Abigail Spencer and Lucas Till in the new film Clean Hands, which follows Kevin Simmers, a narcotics officer grappling with his 19-year-old daughter’s worsening opioid addiction, and is based on a true story.
“The script was just incredible. I couldn’t believe the writing that Jake [Allyn] had done and then to find out that it was a true story,” Braff said. “Jake got very close to the family and he wrote a very faithful rendition of what had happened to them.”

“I don’t normally get to play roles like this. I’m often playing roles that are quite different. I’m more often than not comedy. So, to get something that was playing a cop, playing a tragedy, playing all of this drama, I was very drawn to it. I was so flattered that he thought that I could handle it,” he added about his role in the film.
The first season of the Scrubs reboot is available to stream on Hulu.
