King Richard III married Anne Neville on July 12, 1472, at Westminster Abbey, uniting two of the most powerful figures of the Wars of the Roses. Anne, the daughter of the wealthy Earl of Warwick, brought a vast northern inheritance that secured Richard’s political dominance.
The couple established their primary court at Middleham Castle, where their only child, Edward of Middleham, was born around 1473. Their power peaked on July 6, 1483, when they were crowned King and Queen of England.
However, their royal triumph quickly turned to tragedy when their young son died suddenly in April 1484, leaving the couple heartbroken and without an heir.
Weakened by intense grief and chronic illness, likely tuberculosis, Queen Anne passed away less than a year later on March 16, 1485, during a solar eclipse. Richard’s own life cut short just five months later on August 22, 1485, when he was slain at the Battle of Bosworth Field by the forces of Henry Tudor, effectively ending the Plantagenet dynasty.
