FITCHBURG — Several event are planned to celebrate to the Juneteenth holiday on Friday, June 19, including a Juneteenth Pre-Show, a Juneteenth Flag Raising, Parade & Party and a Buy Black Market, done in cooperation with the city of Fitchburg and Canvas by CoFF33 Corp., at 326 Main St.
“Join us as we celebrate Juneteenth — a time to honor freedom, reflect on our shared history, and recognize the strength, culture and contributions of the Black community,” said Canvas by CoFF33 representatives in a press release.
This year’s celebration has something for everyone, including community connections, live entertainment, family-friendly activities and fun, the press release said.
“Come together with friends, family and neighbors as we commemorate this important day through culture, community and celebration. We can’t wait to see you there,” said the Canvas by CoFF33 press release.
The Juneteenth Pre-Show, on Thursday, June 18, at 8 p.m., will be at Canvas by CoFF33 Corp., 326 Main St., kicking off the Juneteenth weekend with an evening of live music, DJs, local performers and positive energy. Featuring talented artists from across the region, this celebration is all about honoring freedom, culture, heritage and unity.
The Juneteenth Flag Raising, Parade & Party will start at Riverfront Park in downtown Fitchburg and end at Abolitionist Park, which is also downtown, near the fire station, on Friday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Juneteenth celebrations start with a community flag-raising ceremony at Riverfront Park, followed by a historic tour that concludes at Abolitionist Park. Then enjoy musical dance and theatrical performances. This event is free. Also, free food and ice cream for the first 50 arrivals.
The Buy Black Market will be on Friday, June 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Fitchburg City Hall, 718 Main St., which is being run in conjunction with the city. Support Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. Browse unique products, connect with local vendors and celebrate freedom through community and economic empowerment. Admission is free and the event will be catered by Roots Natural Foods out of Leominster. There is free admission. Venders can still sign up.
The Buy Black Market After Party will be held on Friday, June 19, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Canvas by CoFF33 Corp., 326 Main St. Keep the celebration going with an evening of music, entertainment and community as we come together to celebrate Juneteenth in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. There is free admission, but a suggested donation of $10.
The fourth annual Juneteenth Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 20, from 12 to 3 p.m. at Riverfront Park. Bring the whole family for an afternoon filled with music, food, vendors, face painting, a bouncy house and community resources. This free event is a chance to connect with neighbors, celebrate Black history and culture, and enjoy a day of fun for all ages.
“Whether you’re shopping local, dancing to live music, supporting small businesses, or spending time with family and friends, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating freedom, culture, and community all weekend long,” said the Canvas by CoFF33 press release.
Volunteers are being sought to serve as door staff / ticket handler, bartender / concessions staff, venue assistant, podcast assistant for “Derek on Everything,” event volunteer, setup and teardown crew, community greeter and organizational steward.
