CLEVELAND — Thousands in northern Ohio gathered to watch the historic arrival of the Union Pacific “Big Boy” No. 4014 earlier this month, and it’ll happen once again when it makes its way back through the state.
The massive engine is the world’s largest steam locomotive, and the only one still being used today. To celebrate the “once-in-a-lifetime event,” the City of Struthers will host a celebration as the train passes through.
The train is expected to arrive between 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on July 12 in downtown Struthers. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and guests will be able to enjoy a variety of vendors and live entertainment.
The full schedule will be released in the coming weeks, the city said.
There are a few things to keep in mind:
Street closures at 7 a.m.
- Liberty Street and Bridge Street
- Lowellville Road and North Bridge Street
- State Street and Short Street
All of downtown will be designated as a spectator-only zone for the event.
Parking
- Handicapped parking will be available at WesBanco
- Permit parking lots will be reserved for volunteers and vendors
- Public parking will be available on the city’s 28-acre riverfront property along the Mahoning River

Additionally, there will be a free shuttle service through Purple Cat. Security and public safety personnel will be scattered throughout downtown to keep guests safe, the city said.
“History is rolling into Struthers, and we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!” the city said.
