Shaquille O’Neal Shows Off Teal-Painted Toenails on Podcast

A conversation about business, relationships, comedy, and rap took an unexpected turn when Shaquille O’Neal gave listeners a closer look at something few expected to become a talking point: his freshly painted teal toenails.

During a recent appearance on The Nitty Gritty with Nat, host Natalie Friedman offered Shaq what she jokingly described as an “express pedicure.” What followed was a surprisingly lengthy debate over the condition of the NBA legend’s feet, complete with lotion, jokes, and a reveal that immediately caught Friedman off guard.

“Listen, I’m telling you, my toes are beautiful,” Shaq said before showing them off. When Friedman got a closer look, she noticed the color right away. “Wow. You see? Yeah. You got teal.” Shaq responded proudly: “You see that polish?”

The reveal became one of the most memorable moments of the interview. Friedman appeared genuinely surprised to see the nail polish, asking, “You have nail polish on there. What happened?”

Shaq brushed off the concern and defended his feet throughout the segment. “My nail is beautiful,” he said, before later adding, “My toes are beautiful right now.”

When asked whether he painted them himself, Shaq quickly set the record straight. “Nope. I had somebody paint them,” he said.

The exchange fits with the broader image O’Neal has cultivated in recent years. While he remains one of the most recognizable athletes in basketball history, the Hall of Famer has become just as well known for embracing unexpected moments in entertainment.

That willingness to laugh at himself has surfaced repeatedly over the past year. In late 2025, Shaq made headlines during an appearance on Andy Cohen Live after pitching a tongue-in-cheek dating competition called The Next Mrs. O’Neal.

More recently, he found himself addressing viral fake social media posts that falsely claimed he had sent messages to pop star Sabrina Carpenter. He publicly dismissed the fabricated screenshots, joking that “the Diesel got way more game than that.”

This time, however, there was no rumor to debunk and no reality-show pitch to explain. Instead, the spotlight landed on a pair of teal-painted toenails and Shaq’s insistence that his feet deserved respect.

“For 29,000 points, my feet are beautiful,” he joked as Friedman finished examining them. “Is that good?”
