When I think back to my summers as a child, a few key things stand out. One, summer camp. Two, family travel. And three, going to see the latest movies at the theater.
Luckily, that part of my life hasn’t changed, and I’m ready to watch the best summer movies of 2026. This year, there are so many films I’m intrigued by—and that says a lot as someone who watches movies for a living! There are adaptations of literary classics (like The Odyssey), new movies in beloved franchises (hello, Toy Story 5!), and even romantic films like Voicemails for Isabelle. 1) Disclosure Day

The latest movie from director Steven Spielberg follows a cybersecurity expert as he works alongside a TV meteorologist to expose extraterrestrial life to the public. But will they survive their mission, especially with a government agency trying to stop it?

2) Voicemails for Isabelle

Jill (Zoey Deutch) struggles with the death of her sister Isabelle (Ciara Bravo), and leaves emotional voicemails to her old phone number. The number gets reassigned to Wes (Nick Robinson). As he listens to her messages, he becomes increasingly invested in her.

3) Toy Story 5

The latest movie in the Toy Story franchise is here, and fans will see their favorite set of figures learn about electronics. The movie introduces a smart tablet named Lilypad, and the crew must figure out how to navigate a world that’s become more and more dominated by digital entertainment.

4) Supergirl

Based on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic books, this film follows Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, as she grapples with the loss of Krypton and her place in the universe. But when a young girl seeks her help in bringing a killer to justice, Kara begins a mission across the galaxy.

5) Minions & Monsters

In this installment of the Minions franchise, a new group of minions living in the 1920s unexpectedly become some of the era’s biggest movie stars. But when the “talkies” threaten their fame, three minions set out to make their own monster movie using real monsters.

6) Enola Holmes 3

Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) is ready for her happily ever after with Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), and the couple travel to Malta for their wedding. But their plans are put off course when Enola learns her brother, Sherlock (Henry Cavill), has been kidnapped. What does this mean for her family—both past and present?

7) Moana

The live-action adaptation of the 2016 animated film sees Moana (Catherine Laga’aia) as she goes beyond her island’s barrier to save it. Working with demigod Maui (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), she braves storms and rocky seas to restore the heart of the goddess Te Fiti before the blight spreading across the ocean destroys everything around her.

8) The Odyssey

A new interpretation of the famous story from Homer, the movie follows the King of Ithaca (Matt Damon) as he embarks on a decade-long adventure home from the Trojan War. As he tries to reunite with his loved ones, he encounters gods, monsters, and more that make his quest more perilous than he expected.

9) Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Set after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is all alone after erasing himself from his loved ones’ memories. As he tries to move on and embrace life as a street-level hero, new challenges emerge that put him at risk.

11) Coyote Vs. Acme

Premieres: August 28 in theaters
In this film, the famed Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote decides to fight back against the ACME Corporation after years of its products failing him. Wile hires billboard attorney Kevin Avery (Will Forte) to help him sue ACME, but things get complicated when the opposing counsel turns out to be Kevin’s former boss, Buddy Crane (John Cena).
