Even during what is seemingly a successful night at the ballpark for the Kansas City Royals (30-45) and their fans, misfortune plagues Kauffman Stadium. Despite bombarding the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday, the home team was forced to remove its most important player, who also happens to be one of the best players in the world today. Superstar shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. left the game with knee discomfort.

Last place is not enough, huh? The Royals now have to watch their MVP contender exit in visible pain. He suffered the injury while sliding to field a Jordan Walker ground ball in the fourth inning. Witt pushed through but came out when his team went up to bat.
KC was already stuck in quicksand when its lineup was largely healthy. Vinnie Pasquantino is on the injured list with a fractured hamate bone in his hand and Maikel Garcia is day-to-day with hand soreness, so manager Matt Quatraro may lose his mind if the franchise cornerstone is forced to miss time. And so will this embattled fan base.
Witt has been one of the most well-rounded and dependable talents in The Show since 2023. He boasts a 4.2 WAR and is batting .294 with a .368 on-base percentage and .465 slugging percentage. Before going down with injury, the 26-year-old blasted his 10th home run of the season.

Besides being a versatile right-handed hitter, Bobby Witt Jr. is a two-time Gold Glove Award winner (one Platinum) who currently leads MLB with 28 stolen bases. Simply put, he is irreplaceable.
Hopefully, the Royals will not even have to entertain such a thought.
