Matt Damon used a Trojan Horse prop from his new movie The Odyssey to sneak his way onto Jimmy Kimmel Live‘s set and surprise Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday, June 18
Damon’s latest appearance on the show comes as he promotes The Odyssey ahead of its July 17 release date
Kimmel and Damon have held a playful “feud” for over 20 years that semi-frequently sees Damon invade the late night talk show
It’s the oldest trick in the book, but Matt Damon broke out the Trojan Horse on his longtime friendly nemesis Jimmy Kimmel for his most recent Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance to continue the pair’s feud.
During Kimmel’s monologue on his late night show on Thursday, June 18, he and his staff performed a bit in which Kimmel was interrupted by a man dressed as a UPS driver who presented two large wooden horses placed outside the show’s set in Los Angeles. Though Kimmel, his sidekick Guillermo and his band said they did not order anything, they pushed the smaller horse onto the show’s set. “I don’t want the horse in here, can we get somebody to get the horse out of here?” Kimmel said, as Damon, 55, burst out of the small horse, to a standing ovation from Kimmel’s audience.
“I don’t want the horse in here, and I don’t want [you in here],” Kimmel said, upon Damon’s arrival. “The horse is here, and there’s no take backs, bitch! I did it. I am here, baby,” Damon said, addressing the audience. “I have traveled far and wide through waves and war to save this audience from mediocrity.”
“This is trespassing!” Kimmel said. “This is another crime you’ve committed here.” “Your face is a crime,” Damon responded.
“How long have you been hiding in that horse for this?” Kimmel asked. “Did the Knicks win?” Damon said.
The pair traded barbs back and forth as Damon bragged that he used the horse to make it onto Kimmel’s set, which he has been humorously banned from for years as part of the duo’s “feud.” Kimmel and Damon wrapped up his appearance by fighting with pool noodles as Damon asked Kimmel’s audience to see his new movie The Odyssey next month.

The Trojan Horse, of course, is at the center of The Odyssey, in which Damon portrays title character Odysseus. The movie is based on the ancient Greek epic poem attributed to Homer and follows Odysseus’ 10-year-long journey to his home island Ithaca after he helps a Greek army win a war in the mythical city Troy by gifting the Trojans a large wooden horse. Odysseus and other Greek soldiers hide inside the horse and emerge to open the city’s gates from within after the Trojans bring the horse inside the city’s walls.
Damon’s new movie, from filmmaker Christopher Nolan, also stars Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo and Robert Pattinson, among others. Nolan, 55, and Universal Pictures first revealed that he was adapting The Odyssey for the big screen in December 2024.

Damon’s hilarious “feud” with Kimmel dates back to 2005, when Kimmel decided to conclude an episode by joking that Damon was expected to appear on the show but they ran out of time. Damon and Kimmel had never met prior to the first time Kimmel joked about it, and it has grown into one of Kimmel’s longest-running gags over the last 20 years.
The Odyssey is in theaters July 17.
