Dozens of community members flocked to the Mungo Martin House in Thunderbird Park at the Royal BC Museum to celebrate the National Indigenous Peoples Day open house.
National Indigenous Peoples Day is observed annually on June 21. It is a special day in Canada to celebrate the rich cultures, heritage, and unique contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
The date aligns with the summer solstice, a time traditionally used by many Indigenous communities for seasonal gatherings and ceremonies.
Visitors were invited to join and connect through conversation and deepen their understanding through respectful dialogue in a welcoming environment.
Attendees met with cultural experts, Knowledge Keepers and Royal BC Museum members and listened to their stories, perspectives and asked questions about Indigenous histories, cultures, languages and living traditions.
