Community invited to 3-day All-American blowout

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Monroeville and America’s 250th birthday, the municipality and Monroeville Foundation invites the community to the first-ever All-American Weekend from July 3-5.

The special three-day celebration will bring together the annual Independence Day Parade, fireworks and Monroeville Community Day, as well as countless other performances, activities and experiences.

There will be delicious food trucks, bands, games and more spread across the community, making sure everyone has a chance to join in the fun.

July 3: Things will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with the “Legacy of Leadership VIP Ceremony” at Tall Trees Amphitheater. The ceremony will honor local leaders who have helped shape Monroeville over the decades. The event is free, and the public in encouraged to attend.

The night’s main event will be a free performance by the East Winds Symphonic Band from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A local favorite for more than 40 years, East Winds consists of nearly 70 talented musicians from across Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs.

July 4: The annual Monroeville Independence Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. from the Miracle Mile Shopping Center to the Monroeville Convention Center. The night ends with a bang with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. outside Monroeville Mall. The best place to see the show is from the parking lot near the mall’s annex.

July 5: The fun continues at 9 a.m. in Community Park West for the annual 5K Walk & Run. To register, visit runsignup.com/race/pa/monroeville/monroevillefoundationrunwalk.

The Monroeville Interfaith Ministerium will host an Interfaith Ministry Social Event from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Monroeville Community Day runs from 1 to 8 p.m., with numerous highlights including:

• Classic Car Cruise runs from 1 to 6 p.m.

• No Bad JuJu performs R&B and dance music from 2 to 4 p.m.

• Foam Party from 4 to 6 p.m.

• Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers perform rock and blues hits from 6 to 8 p.m.

Hillcrest Church welcomes community to upcoming events

Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church, 1622 James St. in Monroeville, invites the community to upcoming events.

• American Heritage Service (Revolutionary War Church Service): 10 to 11 a.m. June 28. This is a reenactment of a worship service on the Western Pennsylvania frontier that was led by Presbyterian missionaries during the Revolutionary War. The service is held outdoors on Hillcrest’s property. The public is invited to bring a sack lunch for a time of fellowship following the service.

• Concert in the Park: 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 28. Members of the Hillcrest Publicity Committee invites the public to join them for an evening of music with Curtis & The Shakerz at the Tall Trees Amphitheater in Monroeville Community Park West.

• Summer Music Camp for Kids: 9 a.m. to noon July 13-17. The camp is open to children 6 to 12. For details and to register, call 412-824-5600.

• Lower Church Hall Social with DJ: 6 to 8 p.m. July 18. Join us for a fun evening of karaoke and refreshments. For details, call 412-824-5600.

• Blessing of the Pets: 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 9. Worshippers are encouraged to bring their socialized pets, on a leash or in a carrier, with them to the outdoor Sunday service in the church’s courtyard. During the service, each pet will be blessed by the minister, with a message that elevates God’s gift of animals as a blessing for us to give thanks.

• Worship and Picnic in the Park: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 23. Members and nonmembers are invited to join us for some picnic fare, including burgers, hot dogs, cheesy potatoes and nachos. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite dessert to share with others; plastic serving ware and drinks will be provided. A casual service including music will start at 10:15 a.m. A variety of games, such as horseshoes and volleyball, are planned for the event.

Presentation to cover county reassessments

At-large Allegheny Council member Bethany Hallam will discuss reassessments during a presentation at 6 p.m. July 6 at the Pitcairn Boro Park Building, 557 Broadway Blvd.

The purpose of the gathering is to give the public the opportunity to offer comment on proposed bill No. 13892-26, which provides for regular reassessment of properties located within Allegheny County.

There will be a question-and-answer period following the presentation.

Pitcairn firefighters gearing up for annual Jubilee in August

Pitcairn Hose Company No. 1 is hosting its annual Jubilee from Tuesday, Aug. 4, through Saturday, Aug. 8, at the station, 100 S. Center Ave., Pitcairn.

The festival will be open nightly from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and until 11 p.m. on the weekends. There will be a parade at 6 p.m. Aug. 8.

There will be rides, games and traditional fair food provided by the fire company and a midway in partnership with Bartlebaugh Amusements.

There also will be games such as fair bingo, pick-a-ticket, chuckaluck and more.

Pitcairn Police Department K-9s Maxx and Reese will be on hand to meet the public.

Overflow parking will be available at the ballfields by the borough building.

Side yard program open to Pitcairn residents

Anyone interested in buying a vacant lot next to their property in Pitcairn is encouraged to participate in Allegheny County’s Vacant Property Recovery Program.

Pitcairn is eligible for the side yard program because it is one of 30 communities within the county in which at least 51% of households are low- to moderate income.

Most fees and liens are waived.

Summer Concert Series still going strong

The Summer Concert Series in Monroeville Community Park West has been running since 2008 and continues to be one of Monroeville’s signature community events. UPMC East is sponsor.

Here is the remaining 2026 lineup. The performances take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sundays, unless otherwise noted, at the park’s Tall Trees Amphitheater, 2339 Tilbrook Road.

Admission is free, and food trucks are available at every concert.

• June 28: Curtis & The Shakerz (blues and rock)

• July 12: Morgan Gruber (modern country)

• July 19: Lenny Smith Project (classic rock)

• July 24-26 and July 31-Aug. 1: “Richard III” by Poor Yorick’s Players: Shakespeare in the Park; 7 p.m. start except Aug. 1, which will be at 2 p.m.

• Aug. 2: Jeff Jimerson & Airborne (classic rock)

• Aug. 9: The Shiners (roots rock)

• Aug. 16: Franchise Band (R&B)

• Aug. 23: Jason Kendall (variety and top 40)

• Aug. 30: 8th Street Rox (rock and blues)

Church festival set

Christ the Divine Shepherd-St. Bernadatte campus officials will host a church festival from 5 to 10 p.m. July 16-18 each night.

The festival will include food, drinks, live entertainment, rides, basket raffles and more. It also will include performances from the DMA Summer Camp Cheerleaders, East End Kids, Suns of Beaches and more.

The festival is at 245 Azalea Drive in Monroeville.

Acoustic concerts on Wednesdays celebrate local musicians

The Acoustic Roots Concert Series takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the wedding gazebo in Monroeville Community Park

Admission is free. Attendees are welcome to bring a chair or blanket.

Acoustic Roots is a relaxed acoustic music series featuring local and regional musicians.

Every other event includes an acoustic open mic, where all musicians are welcome to perform.

Here is the remaining lineup:

• July 22: Adam Fitz, acoustic open mic

• Aug. 12: Tom Frank, Tom Breiding

• Aug. 26: Mark Anthony, acoustic open mic

Movies in the Park include themed activities

Monroeville hosts Movies in the Park on one Friday each month, June through October, at the Tall Trees Amphitheater in Monroeville Community Park.

Admission is free.

Themed activities at 7:30 p.m. are sponsored by Monroeville Public Library. The movies, all PG-13, begin at dusk.

• Aug. 21: “Zootopia 2”

• Sept. 18: “Project Hail Mary”

• Oct. 16: “Coco”

Discounted park tickets available

Monroeville’s Recreation and Parks Department has discounted tickets available to purchase for a variety of area amusement parks.

People are welcome to purchase them at the municipal building, 2700 Monroeville Blvd., during regular business hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The tickets are good for any day. Prices are as follows:

• Kennywood: $43

• Sandcastle: $35

• Idlewild & Soak Zone: $40

The Monroeville Convention Center, 209 Mall Blvd., will host the following upcoming shows:

Summer hunt to celebrate Monroeville’s parks

Monroeville Recreation & Parks is organizing a Summer Park Hunt to encourage everyone to visit the municipality’s 15 parks.

Participants can collect a stamp at each park:

• Hawkeye Park, 711 Hawkeye Drive

• Alpine Park, 405 Olten Road

• Ferndale Park, 4707 Lolly Drive

• Heritage Park, 1321 Woodcliffe Drive

• Beechwood Park, 2200 Ramsey Road

• Kelvington Park, 131 Kelvington Drive

• Monroeville Park East, 2336 Tilbrook Road

• Monroeville Park West, 2399 Tilbrook Road

• Patton Park, 204 Rosecrest Drive

• Pioneer Park, 245 Young Drive

Everyone who turns in a completed map to the Recreation & Parks department by 4 p.m. Aug. 4 will have a chance to win four 2027 season passes to Kennywood. The drawing will take place Aug. 5.

Farmers market runs through November

The Monroeville Lions Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Nov. 21.

It will be in the Monroeville Mall parking lot along Mall Circle Drive, between Best Buy and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

This year, the market will host 27 vendors. Each week, Lions Club members will be on hand to collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids and to sell brooms made by the visually impaired.

Church’s clothes closet open to those in need

The Presbyterian Church of Pitcairn operates a clothes closet each month, typically from 10 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Saturdays, in the former pastor’s house attached to the church building, 312 Highland Ave.

The clothes closet serves hundreds of people in Pitcairn each year who are in need of clothes and accessories. From infants to adults and from shoes to hats, the closet maintains an inventory for all people and all seasons.

Senior center free for residents

The Monroeville Senior Citizens Center, 6000 Gateway Blvd., is free for residents 50 and older from Monroeville and Pitcairn to join.

The facility includes state-of-the-art equipment and senior friendly cardiovascular and strength training equipment, Fitness memberships are free for residents 65 and older. Residents 50 to 64 pay $60 for a three-month plan, $100 for six months and $160 for a full year.

All programs and classes require registration, and some require fees.

County treasurer plans mobile visits

Allegheny County Treasurer Erica Rocchi Brusselars will conduct mobile office events in Monroeville over the next several months.

According to the Treasurer’s Office, the goal of the events is to expand access to services for county residents, without the need to travel to Pittsburgh.

Some of the services offered include real estate tax information, dog licensing, hunting/fishing licensing and senior tax applications. A full list of services can be found on the office’s website at alleghenycountytreasurer.us.

The next visit will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 31 in council chambers at the Monroeville Municipal Building, 2700 Monroeville Blvd.

Lyme disease support group meeting

The PA Lyme Resource Network hosts a monthly Lyme disease support group meeting.

Meetings take place on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Monroeville Public Library, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.

The next meeting will take place July 14.

Pitcairn Lions Club offers Fresh Market

The club’s Fresh Market will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. There are no income requirements to receive food.

All events will take place at the Pitcairn Park Building, 549 Broadway Blvd.

Marines still looking for a few good men

The Forbes Trail Detachment 797 of the Marine Corps League invites all honorably discharged Marines, FMF Corpsmen and FMF Navy Chaplains to join its ranks.

As the only federally chartered Marine Corps veterans organization, Forbes Trail Detachment 797 is a nonprofit dedicated to community service and veteran fellowship. From local parades and Honor Guards to the annual picnic and birthday celebration, members stay active in the Monroeville area and ensure the traditions of the Corps live on.

Meetings are at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at American Legion Post 820, 4339 Old William Penn Highway, Monroeville.

Peabody High School planning 40th reunion

Peabody High School’s Class of 1986 is planning its 40-year reunion on Aug. 14-16.

The three-day event includes an Aug. 14 icebreaker; dinner, dancing and music Aug. 15 at Christ the Divine Mercy Academy Lourdes Center in Monroeville; and a family picnic Aug. 16 in Highland Park.

There will be door prizes and other giveaways at the dinner.

Tickets for the three-day event are $75 for singles and $125 for couples. You also can order a Peabody reunion T-shirt for $20.
