Rising country artist Clay Barker is tapping into the spirit of early 2000s country with his new single ‘Drinkin’ Tonight,’ a feel-good, nostalgia-soaked track built for summer nights and small-town memories.

Blending modern production with the easygoing charm that defined an earlier era of country music, ‘Drinkin’ Tonight’ feels like a throwback without sounding dated. It’s the kind of song that invites listeners to roll the windows down, head for the lake, and lose themselves in a moment, capturing the carefree energy of a night that wasn’t supposed to turn into anything special, but somehow does.

Written by Barker alongside Jasper Charles and Justin Holt, the track follows a familiar but timeless country storyline: a casual night out that quickly becomes something more. What begins as a quiet drink turns into instant chemistry, dance floor sparks and the kind of connection that only happens when you least expect it.

For Barker, the intention was clear from the start, to recapture the feeling of the music he grew up on. “It’s one of those songs that doesn’t take itself too seriously,” he explains. “It’s about having fun, meeting someone unexpectedly and getting caught up in the moment. I wanted it to feel like the songs I grew up listening to, the kind you’d play on a boat, at the beach or around a bonfire.”

Originally from Alabama and now based in Nashville, Barker is carving out a lane that blends traditional storytelling with a more contemporary edge. Drawing comparisons to artists like Billy Currington, Easton Corbin and Dierks Bentley, his music reflects real-life moments, from growing up in a small town to the fleeting, unforgettable experiences that define youth.

As an independent artist, Barker has steadily built momentum, amassing millions of streams and a rapidly growing fanbase online. His music has resonated across social platforms, helping introduce his sound to a new generation of country listeners who are increasingly drawn to authenticity and storytelling.

That momentum is now carrying onto the road, with Barker spending the summer performing across the Southeast and beyond. Having already shared stages with artists including Riley Green and Mitchell Tenpenny, he continues to develop a reputation as a live performer capable of delivering the same energy and connection found in his recordings.
