Thomas Rhett is heading into a busy touring season.
The country superstar has revealed to People Magazine that he is actively working on fresh material ahead of his upcoming Soundtrack to Life Tour, while also opening up about how he balances life on the road with being a father of five. The update comes as anticipation builds for one of his biggest touring runs in recent years.
New Music in the Works Before Tour Kickoff
Rhett confirmed that he’s currently writing and recording new music, describing the project as a particularly meaningful creative period for him. He shared that this latest batch of songs feels like some of his strongest work yet, shaped by a more focused and grounded writing process. “I feel like there were a lot of years where I was doing quantity over quality songs,” Rhett admitted. “I feel like all the music made for this record was made out of peace rather than the chaos of the road. We just wrote a lot of songs that have a lot of heart and a lot of intentionality.”
Thomas Rhett Balances Touring with Family Life
Beyond music, Rhett also spoke candidly about the challenge of balancing a demanding touring schedule with raising his children alongside his wife, Lauren Akins.
“I hate to leave my house, but it’s also a privilege to be able to leave and go do this,” the “Marry Me” singer explained. “It’s also a unique chance to teach your kids that you’re allowed to do something that you love for a living. I try to turn it into a teaching tool rather than a ‘Oh, your daddy has to go.’ I’ve turned into like, ‘Hey, your daddy gets to do this. This is such a privilege to be able to do it.’ Reframing the way that they look at me leaving, I think, has been really beneficial for me as a dad and I think for them as children.”
When asked what he does for a living, Rhett joked that his kids answer that he “just sings” and “makes words rhyme,” grounding the multi-award-winning singer and songwriter.
Aside from the Soundtrack to Life Tour, Rhett is also scheduled to headline WE Fest 2026 in Detroit Lakes with Lainey Wilson and Brooks & Dunn. He will also perform with Niall Horan on July 7 during the latter’s Grand Ole Opry debut. He is set to reunite with the former One Direction member on July 9 at Geodis Park in Nashville.
