The Tampa Bay Rays let their second straight game get away from them as they lost once again at Tropicana Field, 12-5, to the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

Sometimes the pitching doesn’t work in your favor, even if it’s showing signs of rebounding as it has over the past few weeks for the Rays.
Tuesday night was just one of those nights.
Shane McClanahan got the start for the Rays in his 15th appearance of the year and struggled pretty quickly. He allowed back to back home runs to Nick Loftin and Jac Caglianone in the first inning, only the 4th and 5th homers allowed by McClanahan in 68 innings.
Once he was removed for reliever Steven Matz, the floodgates certainly opened. He couldn’t hold off the inherited runners as well as allowing a few more himself. He finished the day, allowing 5 runs, 2 earned, out of the bullpen.

McClanahan ended up allowing 6 runs, but only 2 earned across his 5 innings of work after the base traffic he left to Matz, who had another disappointing outing.
Junior Caminero was one of the very few bright spots in the Rays lineup during the game as he went deep for his 16th of the season during the 8th inning. He finished the day going 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs.
Chandler Simpson found himself on base a few times thanks to a couple of walks, and he made the most of them. He picked up his 17th steal of the season and now has 3 stolen bases in his last 4 games.
The Rays were 4 for 13 with runners in scoring position and left 9 men on base.

The Rays will look to salvage the 4-game series with a win in the final two games against the Royals before a weekend series at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. They will be back in action on Wednesday night with Griffin Jax (2-5, 3.67 ERA) on the mound for Tampa Bay. He will face Noah Cameron (4-4, 4.20 ERA) for Kansas City. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST.
