Delta journey

“Cotta Blue,” an original theatrical musical written and directed by Diane Cameron Elam, premieres at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ritz Theatre, 213 S. Main St., Malvern.

The show, “inspired by the history and spirit of the Mississippi River Delta,” according to a news release, follows the life of Carter “Cotta” Blue, a musician “whose journey is shaped by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, wrongful imprisonment, perseverance, faith and ultimately redemption.”

A 6 p.m. reception kicks off the evening, which will also feature a performance by Hot Springs-based blues-roots band Spa City Youngbloods and an awards presentation for six 2026 Cotta Blues Cultural Heritage nominees, “honoring the legacy and influence of Delta music and storytelling,” according to the release,. A post-show Blues Jam Session will feature Mississippi Marshall, Detroit Johnny and regional musicians.
