Last week, it was confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be visiting the UK with their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, between July 6 and July 10 after living in the United States for four years.
The family, who will be embarking on the transatlantic trip to attend the One Year To Go Invictus events in Birmingham, have also been invited to stay at Buckingham Palace by Harry’s father King Charles, Daily Mirror reports.
However, despite the generous offer, they may receive a frosty welcome from the monarch’s wife Queen Camilla, according to The Times.
The publication claims that Her Majesty will be “staying well clear” of Prince Harry and is “unlikely to get involved” in any conversations with the Sussexes during their stay.
Furthermore, The Times has predicted that Camilla may opt to stay at her private Ray Mill residence in Wiltshire, far away from her stepson and his family.
The Queen’s cold welcome may be, in part, due to the unflattering claims Harry made about her in his 2023 memoir Spare.
The book saw the Duke of Sussex describe his stepmother as a “villain”, and even laid bare his and his brother Prince William’s pleas with their father not to marry her in 2005.
Harry also alleges that Camilla converted his bedroom in Clarence House into a dressing room as soon as he moved out at the age of 28, and claims her and Charles’ “spin doctor” threw him “right under the bus” by leaking negative stories about him in the early 2000s.
Camilla isn’t the only one rumoured to be steering clear of Harry and his family, with numerous reports suggesting that William is bracing for his brother’s return.
Royal biographer Angela Levin claims the future King will no doubt be “horrified” and “furious” about his father’s offer for the family to stay at the royal residence during their stay.
“He won’t go anywhere near him, I believe, and he won’t let Catherine go anywhere near him.”
Other outlets have suggested that Charles and William’s relationship has taken a hit as a result of the King’s olive branch towards Harry, with one insider telling Mail on Sunday that they are “not in a good place”.
“They are at a very low ebb,” the source added.
Buckingham Palace has denied rumours of a disagreement between father and son.
