ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Griffin Jax pitched five strong innings, Yandy Diaz tied Tampa Bay’s franchise record for career RBI and the Rays defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Wednesday night.

Diaz hammered a line drive to left field in the fourth inning to tie B.J. Upton’s franchise mark of 447 RBI and give Tampa Bay a 4-0 lead. Jonny DeLuca followed with an RBI double.

Former University of Central Arkansas pitcher Noah Cameron (4-5) gave up all 5 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings for the Royals.

CUBS 10-10, METS 3-5 Dansby Swanson hit a tiebreaking three-run home run in the sixth inning and added a grand slam in the eighth inning, lifting the Chicago Cubs to a win over the reeling New York Mets in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. Swanson launched a two-out, 400-foot home run beyond the left-center field fence before hitting a grand slam two innings later. The Marlins improved to a major league-best 16-5 in June.

DODGERS 4, TWINS 3 Mookie Betts backed Shohei Ohtani with his 300th career home run, three hits and slick defense as the Los Angeles Dodgers finished a three-game sweep of Minnesota.
