Morgan Burtwistle, known as Angryginge and winner of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, has revealed he received a torrent of online abuse after confronting alleged racism at an England World Cup match.
The social media star attempted to have a man removed from England’s 0-0 draw with Ghana at the World Cup at Boston Stadium on Tuesday, after accusing him of making racist remarks.
Burtwistle shared screenshots on his Instagram story displaying numerous abusive and threatening comments, captioned with: “Standing up to racism gets you this? What a world we live in.”
In a YouTube video posted on Thursday, Burtwistle, 24, recounted the incident: “The man sat in front was making incredibly racist comments towards the Ghanaian national team. Due to this, it was only right for me to stand up and deal with this. Watch how the stewards deal with this it is actually embarrassing.”
He explained that a steward initially told him they “can’t kick him out”, and although the man appeared to leave, Burtwistle later confirmed he had not been removed from the game.
Expressing his frustration, Burtwistle added: “Absolutely not good enough from the American stewards, the message before the games at football is kick it out, if you see it, say it. I’ve gone and reported it, the guy, he’s not been kicked out of the stadium, we saw him as we left, he’s been able to watch the whole game after some of the things he was saying about the Ghana team I’m not even going to repeat.
The 24-year-old continued: “I think it’s an absolute f****** disgrace he’s been allowed to stay in and watch the game after having evidence on the vlog. I’ve been over and reported it, and five witnesses, literally all of us have heard him say it, and he’s still been able to watch the game.”
He further stated that a steward informed him the man would only be ejected if he made another racist comment, a policy Burtwistle described as “ridiculous”.
Fifa has been contacted for comment regarding the incident.
