Phase two of a $65 million restoration project is underway at the West Herr Performing Arts Center on East Main Street in Rochester.
Members of the Rochester Broadway Theatre League say this next phase of work includes expanding the theatre’s Rothschild Lounge back to its original size. It will also include a redesign of the Auditorium Theatre’s backstage artist and crew spaces.
“We want this to be a place that Rochesterians bring relatives and friends from out of town,” said Arnie Rothschild, CEO and board chair of RBTL. “This organization has believed from the get-go that people deserve a performing arts center.”
The almost 100-year-old building, which was originally built as a Masonic temple, is filled with rooms featuring stages of all sizes and a lot of office space.
The restoration plan involves using the existing space and turning the building into an entertainment center. Inviting arts organizations of all sizes to take up residency.
