ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — Belt Entertainment & Volleys announced on social media that they are closing.
In a post on Sunday, June 28, the company confirmed many of the rumors circulating on social media the day before. Belt Entertainment/Volleys’ last day will be Sunday, June 28, after eight years of operation following their purchase of the businesses from their previous owners.
Outgoing owner Michael White has many years of experience in the family entertainment business. He shared that he was employed at a former St. Joseph bowling alley, Olympia Lanes.
In 2018, White and a group of individuals bought Belt Entertainment, Volleys, and other ventures on the property or attached to the building.
White said that one aspect of these closures is that things are not always what they seem to customers eyes.
“A lot of people don’t understand all of the costs and how much it takes to run a business. I know I’ve seen comments saying that, every time I go there, it’s full,” White told KQ2. “There are so many things that are hidden costs, and especially building being this big. Utilities and the people, this is a 40,000 square foot building.”
Those costs caused the businesses to attempt to enter a restructuring phase a few years ago, according to White. In April of 2026, White said they were just shy of proving their bankruptcy case in court.
He also stated he attempted to bring in more investors to keep the building open, on Monday he said they were told that the latest and highest offer they could provide was rejected. Incredible Bank has purchased the property where the two businesses reside.
“It’s really meant everything to me. I opened this place because I wanted to build a family entertainment center,” White said. “I believe a lot in family entertainment. I used to bring my daughter to Kansas City (to other entertainment venues). I wanted to bring that here to St. Joseph.”
White wrote on social media that the current league bowlers’ prizes will be handed out by the league secretary. They also ask that all bowlers with any belongings in lockers at their business come get them on Sunday.
However, for those who are unable to come by on Sunday, White will be on site July 29 & 30 for bowlers to retrieve their belongings. The property will reportedly be auctioned off in August, according to BELT Entertainment’s post.
