Shropshire Music Trust has announced the first details of its forthcoming 2026/27 season, promising another varied programme of classical, contemporary and world music.

Now in its 43rd year, the trust has spent more than four decades bringing a wide range of live music to Shropshire, and its new season, which begins in September, looks set to be one of its most eclectic yet.

“We are very excited about our 2026/27 programme, which we are now finalising,” said John Moore, musical director of the trust.

“It is really amazing that we have managed to attract world-class performers to the county. Shropshire is blessed with an array of rich musical events and we are thrilled to be able to enrich this offering – we hope audiences will enjoy our programme as much as we do.

“We are also continuing our collaboration with the Festival Centre in Market Drayton and building new links in Whitchurch and Bridgnorth.

“Our educational programmes include ‘Take it Up!’, in which we fund children in the most deprived schools in Shropshire to choose a wind or brass instrument and enjoy group lessons provided by Shropshire Music Service. We also provide workshops for school children, facilitated by the diverse range of musicians.”

One of the season’s highlights will be a November 13th performance at Prestfelde School by Urban Folk Quartet, described as “a sizzling hot ensemble who fuse folk with elements of dub, house and rock”.

The programme will also include an evening of music by Monteverdi, performed by Ex Cathedra alongside His Majesty’s Cornetts and Sackbuts in what will be Jeffrey Skidmore’s final performance with the main choir.

Further details of the full 2026/27 programme will be announced via their website soon.
