While it has been a nightmare season for the Kansas City Royals, one of the biggest bright spots has been the emergence of Jac Caglianone. The 23-year-old left-handed slugger made his big-league debut last year, less than one year after being selected sixth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Unfortunately, Caglianone struggled mightily and some questioned whether the Royals simply brought him up too quickly.

He has shut down all doubts in 2026. Across 78 games, he has posted a .265 batting average, .337 on-base percentage, .818 OPS, 14 home runs and 30 RBIs. In a season where Kansas City sits 34-50, it could be a lot worse if Caglianone’s bat was not in the lineup every day, and the team’s future is bright because of him.

Unfortunately, his season has been interrupted by injury. He was originally included in the starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Chicago White Sox, looking to help the Royals avoid getting swept.

However, he was removed hours before first pitch with Kameron Misner stepping in to play right field.
Moments later, the Royals announced the reason for his late scratch. “Jac Caglianone was scratched with left groin soreness,” the team wrote on X.
It is unclear when Caglianone first felt the setback, although it likely resurfaced during pregame warmups, forcing the late move. Manager Matt Quatraro will likely provide further updates on his condition after the game and whether or not it is serious enough to force a stint on the injured list or if it is a day-to-day situation.
