When it comes to the hottest shows on Netflix right now, crime drama I Will Find You tops the charts, followed by survival game show Outlast: The Jungle and romantic drama Sweet Magnolias. However, there is one surprisingly well-reviewed show that has flown under the radar and is actually perfect for this time of year.
While it might not be the most high-profile show on Netflix right now, The American Experiment quietly has a perfect 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and is totally fitting for this time of year.
‘The American Experiment’
Produced by Tom Hanks and directed by Brian Knappenberger, The American Experiment is a five-part historical documentary series that explores the origins and future of American democracy.
“Life. Liberty. The pursuit of happiness. This sweeping historical documentary series traces how the ideals of America’s founders gave rise to a nation,” the official Netflix description of the show reads.
The show features historical reenactments and bipartisan interviews with historians and politicians to tell the story of the country, and it couldn’t come at a better time as the United States gears up to celebrate its 250th anniversary on July 4.
100% on Rotten Tomatoes
It’s not one of the most high-profile or most-watched shows on Netflix right now, but it is one of the best reviewed, as it has a perfect 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, receiving glowing reviews.
“In a way, it’s comforting to be reminded that the anxiety and uncertainty plaguing this country now are not new,” writes Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter.
“It is a punchy, spiky but cerebral few hours which recognises that the experiment is evolving and there is more work to do,” writes Carol Midgley of The Times.
“‘The American Experiment’ packs a good deal of information about our governing principles into five-plus, nimbly paced hours,” adds Bob Strauss of The San Francisco Chronicle.
So if you’re looking for something to watch that’s perfect for the occasion and will offer a bit more substance than most streaming options, it might be worth giving this a shot.
