Amal Clooney gave fans a rare glimpse into her relationship with husband George Clooney at a Cartier Dialogues event in Bangkok on Tuesday, June 9 — and what she said left the 65-year-old actor very taken aback, a source tells In Touch.
“It was a weird phenomenon,” the international human rights lawyer, 48, said of being thrust into the spotlight, per the Daily Mail. “I used to have my work life and my personal life, and they could look quite different, and I was able to not have them mix, and then I got married and that changed quite a lot.”
The couple, now parents to 9-year-old twins Ella and Alexander, exchanged vows in Venice, Italy, in 2014 in front of 100 of their closest friends and family, including Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Bill Murray and Vogue‘s Anna Wintour.
“It was easier when I could decide what kind of exposure I got,” she admitted.
“Amal wasn’t looking to hurt George or shine a negative light on their marriage by any means,” notes the source. “But at the same time there’s a sense she’s not afraid to share her frustrations anymore, and this issue has clearly been festering for some years, so she’s being honest and speaking out when asked.”

However, it isn’t George’s style “to air differences in public,” says In Touch‘s source. “He’s worked hard to cultivate this perfect couple persona.”
In January, while speaking with the Los Angeles Times, the Jay Kelly star revealed that he and Amal have never had an argument — a claim he first made in a 2020 interview with People.
“Amal’s comments have definitely triggered a lot of talk about trouble in paradise,” adds the source, “so friends are naturally nervous and keeping their fingers [crossed].”
