After initially meeting as teenagers and only sparking up a romantic relationship years later, Lady Marina Windsor and Nico Macauley’s wedding in North Yorkshire was the perfect culmination of their love story.
The pair announced their engagement on 8 June 2025, which was Marina’s grandparents the Duke and Duchess of Kent‘s wedding anniversary, before tying the knot just over one year later. In another sweet nod to their family, cybersecurity expert Nico dug into his family’s jewellery archive when he quietly proposed during an intimate night in, but exclusive photos from the royal wedding show it looks very different one year later.
Nico had originally planned to pop the question on a sunny Friday afternoon on a beach on the west coast of Ireland. Instead, he opted for a quiet at-home proposal, which he said “completely caught Marina off guard… because she was watching TV when she got back from work!”
Recalling the “mundane” yet “romantic” moment, Prince Harry’s cousin Marina said: “I was so taken aback that I pulled my jumper over my head. I was in total shock. But it was very sweet, romantic and loving.”
