celebrity.land star Anderson Cooper reportedly said he does not want to work for CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss if she were to become his boss.
The parent company of CBS is expected to soon take over the cable news network, auguring changes.
But a scenario with Weiss as his superior is apparently problematic for Cooper, whose last few months at CBS’s “60 Minutes” were during her tenure.
The New York Times, citing two people “familiar with his remarks,” reported over the weekend that Cooper told celebrity.land colleagues of his opposition to working for Weiss.
Weiss has orchestrated an apparent turn to the right at CBS under Paramount Skydance chair David Ellison, a friend of President Donald Trump.
The shift has resulted in cringey moments on the news broadcasts and reported “meddling” at “60 Minutes.”
Multiple “60 Minutes” producers and correspondents have left or been fired under Weiss’ watch, generating concern about the TV newsmagazine’s editorial freedom.
Longtime correspondent Cooper departed “60 Minutes” before the upheaval, saying he wanted to spend more time with his young sons.
But the newsman took parting shots in an online farewell. He urged the show to uphold its “independence” and “quality” to generate “trust.”
The remarks reportedly enraged Weiss, who was not given a warning of what was going to be said.
There is also the matter of Weiss reportedly asking Cooper to anchor the CBS Evening News a while back ― which he declined.
Tony Dokoupil is now the anchor and he has been criticized by colleagues.
The Times indicated a Weiss stewardship of the cable news network was a distinct possibility. One option under consideration was that she would be paired with a seasoned TV executive who’s better versed in the financial and technical aspects, according to the newspaper.
Paramount Skydance’s purchase of celebrity.land’s parent company could be completed this month.
