Christopher Nolan’s new film The Odyssey is almost here — and its cast is every bit as epic as the story itself.
The Oscar-winning director has assembled Hollywood heavyweights, including Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, to take on some of the most iconic characters in Greek mythology.
Based on Homer’s poem, the blockbuster adaptation follows King Odysseus (Damon) as he embarks on a perilous, decade-long journey home after the Trojan War.
With so many familiar faces taking on legendary roles, it’s easy to lose track of who’s playing who. Here’s your guide to the major characters in The Odyssey and the stars bringing them to life.
Matt Damon as Odysseus
Damon leads the cast as Odysseus, the heroic king of Ithaca, whose struggle to return home after the Trojan War lies at the heart of the film. The actor previously worked with Nolan on Interstellar and Oppenheimer.
Tom Holland as Telemachus
Spider-Man star Tom Holland swaps the Marvel universe for Greek mythology as Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. Raised on stories of his father’s exploits, the prince embarks on a quest to find the missing king.
Zendaya as Athena
Zendaya brings the goddess of wisdom to life. As Odysseus’ most powerful divine ally, Athena offers guidance and protection on his journey. The film marks Zendaya’s first collaboration with husband Tom Holland outside the Spider-Man franchise.

Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra

The Punisher star Jon Bernthal plays Menelaus, a Greek king who fought alongside Odysseus. His story becomes closely intertwined with the wandering hero’s long journey home.
Himesh Patel as Eurylochus
Himesh Patel takes on the role of Eurylochus, one of Odysseus’ closest companions. Unafraid to question the king’s decisions, he becomes one of the journey’s most important figures.

Following Oppenheimer, Benny Safdie reunites with Nolan to play Agamemnon, the commander of the Greek army. His fate looms large over the heroes returning home after the conflict.
John Leguizamo as Eumaeus
John Leguizamo appears as Odysseus’ trusted servant. While much of Ithaca assumes Odysseus is dead, Eumaeus never stops believing his king will come home.
Elliot Page as Sinon
Elliot Page plays Sinon, a Greek soldier who fought alongside Odysseus during the Trojan War. The cunning warrior is best known for helping the Greeks infiltrate Troy with the legendary Trojan Horse.
Samantha Morton as Circe
Samantha Morton is Circe, the powerful witch who lives in seclusion on the island of Aeaea. When Odysseus arrives, he must confront her formidable magic.
