Barely six months after releasing his With Heaven On Top album in January 2026, Zach Bryan is teasing his follow-up project, an EP titled Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs.
The ‘Something in the Orange’ singer-songwriter made the announcement in the caption of two new unreleased songs shared to YouTube, ‘Lodi When’ and ‘Better Friends’.
In the captions to both tracks, he shares, “A snippet of the song ‘Better Friends’ / ‘Lodi When’ off of the upcoming EP, ‘Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs’.
Bryan’s post-album EPs have become cult fan-favourites in and of themselves, with Summertime Blues – which came after American Heartbreak – still one of our favourite projects in his catalogue. Similarly, his folk-leaning 2023 Boys of Faith EP, which dropped just weeks after his self-titled album, is a visceral, concise body of work.
‘Lodi When’, which once again finds Bryan showcasing his penchant for nostalic, wistful offerings, is a harmonica-driven gem, and we’re excited to hear the full studio version.
It feels like a return to the more melodic hooks that Bryan laced American Heartbreak and Summertime Blues with. With Heaven On Top was a stellar and widely loved project, but ‘Lodi When’ feels like a return to old-school Zach Bryan – especially given the fact that he’s shared a DIY, rough-around-the-edges clip of it via YouTube.
Similarly, ‘Better Friends’ is an undulating, contemplative track that Bryan performs from a parked car in a garage. Again, this feels like the Oklahoma native tipping his cap to the early days of his career, where he’d share rough, acoustic renditions of songs like ‘Heading South’ and ‘Condemned’, before dropping the studio mixes.
It’s not yet clear when Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs is being released, but the fact that it’s mentioned in the captions of both these songs -and with formal phrasing, too, as if the captions were written by Bryan’s team rather than himself – makes us think this is an official, label-sanctioned project that’s coming soon.
Of course, fans have reason to be a little trepidatious, given the fact that Bryan has announced projects in the past – such as Motorbreath, which was supposed to be accompanied by a film with Matthew McConaughey – and then failed to release them. But we think Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs feels more official, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed the release date is around the corner.
