Earlier in the day, the King’s son, the Duke of Sussex, was told he can no longer stay at Buckingham Palace during his forthcoming trip.
Minutes after the Duke’s team announced he had accepted an offer to stay at the palace, a source indicated that he had waited too long to reply to the invitation.
The decision to rescind the invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace was made in consultation with the King, it was understood.
The King appeared miles away from the chaos as he enjoyed his tour of the RTR museum, his first trip to the since taking over as Colonel-in-Chief in August 2023.
The monarch was greeted at the museum by former colonels-commandant, who serve as the ceremonial heads of the regiment.
During the visit, he learnt about the history and significance of tanks from the First World War to the modern day.
