“Yesterday’s Rain” follows lead single “I Am This Thing” as the second taster of Hitchcock’s twenty-fifth solo studio album, and first collection of new original songs in four years. It’s also accompanied by a music video filmed in Nashville and directed by comedy writer Scott Jacobson, who has made music videos for The National, Dinosaur Jr., Nick Lowe, Superchunk, Stephen Malkmus, and more.
Speaking about the song, Hitchcock says: “Yesterday’s rain falls on tomorrow’s parade. The sins of the past call the shots for the future. And on the way, you get the flag, the lilac tomb, and the crocodile on skis. It’s all good! More classic Brit-rock, played as only Americans can.”
